a successful national specialty!
Ken Meneer, a well established UK judge and breeder, graciously accepted our invitation to judge our Specialty. This was his first engagement in Canada.
All of us, owners, exhibitors, handlers, family & friends, were thrilled to see so many Staffords in the ring. There were dogs and their representatives from Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba, B.C., Texas, & California.
Mr. Meneer sent a brief commentary after the show:
SBTCC OF CANADA SPECIALITY SHOW 6th August 2017
I would like to thank the Committee of the club for inviting me to judge at this your first speciality show that the club has held for 10 years. The show was held in the beautiful surroundings of Spruce Meadows and in conjunction with the Alberta KC Summer Classic. The banning of SBTs in Ontario which was the nucleus of the club for many years must have certainly been a hammer blow for the club.
Hopefully with the dedication and support of the Stafford fraternity in Canada the move to Alberta will see the club move forward and I for one really hope this happens. I would also like to thank every exhibitor for affording me the honour of examining your dogs and for accepting my decisions so graciously, without you, we don’t have dog shows.
I thought the atmosphere at the ringside was brilliant. Whilst there were differing degrees of fitness (which did cost some exhibits) all of the exhibits shown had clean, shining coats and were handled very well considering they were not the used to the English way of judging.
Lastly, I must thank my ring steward Paul Price whose guidance in ring procedure was much appreciated.
