2005 Ottawa SBTCC Booster

May 27-29, 2005

The SBTCC held its 2005 booster hosted by the Ottawa Kennel Club at the Richmond Fairground, outside of Ottawa.

The Ottawa Kennel Club graciously suspended judging in all other rings during judging of SBTCC Booster. This move was designed to focus attention on our breed and its plight under Bill 132.

There was an important Club meeting at that show. There was an information table, donation jar for BSL, and a beautiful hand-knit afghan for raffle.

The club would like to thank all those who took part in the booster to make it a very special day.

Father's Day - Restore Our Rights Walk in Toronto

Julie King reports:

The Restore Our Rights protest walk, which took place in the Yonge/Eglington area of Toronto on Father's Day, was a great success. We wanted to reach out to people at a grassroots level and did that quite successfully. I'd estimate that we had 50+ people come out and several people spontaneously joined in as we were en route. One gentleman who owns a Rhodesian ridgeback cross (his dog is not banned under Bill 132) came from Niagara Falls and we had several families come from Hamilton, Burlington, Kitchener and other cities. We had something in the region of 30 dogs at the event and as we expected they were exceptionally well behaved. There were a large number of purebred Staffordshire Bull Terriers (approx. 20), several American Pit Bull Terriers (approx. 10) and a some dogs from other breeds including a Whippet, Scottie and Sheltie.

As we walked we handed out 240 information flyers to people walking along Yonge Street.

Australian Champion Tanaros Super Glide

Leeroy is a 4 year old champion from Australia, currently winding down a very active show circuit career. At the time of this sketch Leeroy was 9 months old. The electronic version was donated to the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of Canada's Elaine Tessier by the artist herself, Kylie Snell, for the purpose of raising funds.

Woofstock 2005

The SBTCC would like thank everyone who helped at our booth at Woofstock 2005 held June 4-5th. Lynn Shields and her friends, Tony and Holly Marshall, Narcisa Tatu, Sammie Sembol, Eric Sparling, Julie King, Tracy Dineley among others came out to represent the club and responsible dog owners. Maureen Pyke produced posters for the event.

Approximately 40,000 came out to the show and it was a great venue to show how friendly our breed is, how small our breed is, and most importantly how ridiculous breed specific legislation is in its entirety.

Karalyn Maloney writes of the event:

"My 6 year old daughter Keiara [featured with Brin to the left] was so excited to see herself in a picture on your site with her newest friend. I had such trouble getting Brin to say goodbye to her, let alone Keiara to say goodbye to Brin...

I'd like to point out, that up until last year, Keiara was terrified of dogs. We told her it would be different if we got a dog, that she'd see how great they are, especially the Staffies...

Growing up with a Stafford myself, I couldn't imagine having any other breed in our family. Sure enough, she and Dozer, our 16 month old staffordshire bull dozer (to coin her term,) are inseparable.

Thanks so much for posting this picture, you just made both my daughters and my day!"

Thanks to Karalyn and Keiara for making our day!
