21-July-2005 10:35 pmOttawa Walk, August 7
ROUTE UPDATE! URGENT!
Rain date: August 14, 2005
Meet at 10:00 am at Confederation Park.
Before starting the walk, we will decide: Is it too hot to do the full walk? If not, do route 1. If so, we do route 2.
Route 1:
Leave Confederation Park and proceed north up Elgin to Wellington
(south side of street). Travel west on Wellington to Lyon Street.
Cross
over Wellington to the north side of Wellington up through Parliament
Hill (lower level), stopping on Parliament Hill so Squibs can give her
speech and exit at the main gate. Cross over Wellington to the south
side and travel east to Elgin. Head up Elgin to Sparks Street Mall,
where we can gather, have drinks, answer public questions, whatever.
Route 2:
Leave Confederation Park and proceed north up Elgin to Wellington
(cross to north side of street). Go into Parliament Hill, where Squibs
can give her speech.
Exit Parliament Hill and cross to south
side of Wellington. Walk down Wellington to Elgin. Follow Elgin to
Sparks Street Mall, and gather for the duration, sitting in the shade,
have a drink, being available to the public.
Please email Christine
Hernden to let her know if you will be able to attend (dogs by invite
only, please contact Christine for more information).
Please bring a
towel for your dog(s). Water will be available to wet them down to place on the
dogs if it is a hot day.
If it is too hot, we will either re-schedule for the rain day (August 14) or we will shorten the walk.
Also, if you have a child attending with you and
they wouldn't mind handing out flyers, please let Christine
Hernden know.
Signs -- please feel free to make up signs and bring them
along!!
Let's make this a great event! People need to see how great our
dogs are and what responsible, law abiding, wonderful (non-criminal type) people
that we are.
Cheers!

Great News from Vancouver!
From the proposed by law:
During
Council's consideration of the "Dangerous dogs: Protection Strategy"
report in February 2005, many speakers were opposed to breed specific
legislation designating certain dog breeds as vicious. In this report,
"vicious dog" refers to a dog with a history or known propensity for
very aggressive behaviour toward people or other domestic animals. It
was felt that most dogs could be kind and loyal pets if raised in a
caring and loving home environment. Singling out pit bull breeds under
the existing "vicious dog" definition is regarded as unfair,
discriminatory and unnecessary. In the past, the City has never found
it necessary to rely upon the breed specific part of the vicious dog
definition to deal with vicious dog issues. Therefore, the exclusion of
a reference to specific breeds in the definition is recommended.
