"The Claresholm Staffie Walk!"

Hello All Staffie friends.

Once again I am starting to plan our annually Staffie Walk in Claresholm Alberta during our Fair days.  This is the fourth year of walking in the parade. The walk will take place in August 2009.

During the walk we will pass out information on choosing the right breed of dog for your family.  We will throw candy to all the children watching the parade.  I am also looking into buying balloons with a Staffie head on them to toss to the kids.  We are hoping to have a little float in this year but we will see.

Last year was huge success, we had 42 people and 19 dogs walk in the parade.  All the dogs walking behaved as great ambassadors for the bully breeds.  As we were walking, many of the dogs on the side lines were barking and behaving badly.  All the Staffies paid no attention to the misbehaving dogs. For more pictures from the 2008 walk, click here.

After the parade there will be a big BBQ with lots of food and great conversation about the breed.  It is always interesting to see all these people from different life styles together in one place all because of their love for their Staffie.

Anyone interested in getting a Staffie t-shirt please let me know the size of shirt needed and if you have a picture you would like on the shirt send as soon as possible as I have started to make the t-shirts.  There will be a small charge to cover the cost of the shirts.

I encourage all owners of the bully breeds to educate people in their community and be breed ambassadors.

Anyone interested in walking with us in 2009, please contact me,
Jackie Liversuch: 1- 403-625-5565  (E-mail: meadow35@telus.net) for a walk in the parade and BBQ after.

"Message from the SBTCC President"

Dear Members,

The fight through the court of law is over, but the political fight is still ongoing.  This morning the Supreme Court denied our Right to Appeal.  However individual cases will continue and through case law we will be able to put precedents in the book against the DOLA.

Our fight now turns to the political arena where it is imperative that a new government in Ontario be elected in 2011.

During the fight we incurred legal bills that we are morally bound to pay.  We also need money to help individuals fight for their dogs.  So fund-raising must continue.

We have all worked well and hard over the last four years fighting this unjust law.  I wish to thank and encourage our members for their efforts and devotion to our wonderful dogs.  Please keep on fighting, our breed deserves it.

Clive.

"Spring Staffie Tales"

The Spring edition of Staffie Tales is in the mail.

The Summer deadline is June 20. Please write an anecdote - your favourite Staffie moment - and send it in to me for the magazine. A photo of your dog would be most welcome as well.

In this package you will find tickets for our quilt raffle. Mo Pyke has made us 4 beautiful, hand-crafted quilts. We respectfully ask that you buy a book of tickets and sell a book of tickets. These quilts are lovely for anyone - not just "doggy" people! Extra tickets are also available.

Thanks everyone!

"Dollars for Dogs"

The Banned Aid Dollars for Dogs campaign raised about $90000 which will enable us to pay our legal bills and continue on with the legal challenge.

An appeal will shortly be filed with the Supreme Court of Canada.  (We must all be aware that the Court may not agree to hear our appeal.)

However, the wave of overwhelming support for our cause has left us all extremely grateful.  We send sincere thanks to all the dog owners,  breeders, show judges, businesses, breed clubs, all-breed clubs, CKC directors, the CKC, "Dogs in Canada", agility, obedience and other dog sport groups, as well as to a number of cats! You came to our rescue when we needed you and we will never forget!

It is still possible to donate to this campaign. Just donate $1 for every dog you have.
