"Rally Info - Please Attend"

Please attend the rally in support of Bill 16 on Feb. 23 at Queen's Park - and bring a friend.  (Just scroll down for all the information).

It is also important to fill the legislature that afternoon. If you are planning on being there, here are some tips on entry and protocol:

No coats or bags allowed. You must go to the door at the left on the South side, main entrance, you will see a wheelchair access sign. You go to the basement to get a ticket for the gallery and check your coat and any bags.

You may have a small purse with you.

You go through a scanner before entering the gallery.

No signs, no banners into the building without pre-scanning. Again, they may not be taken into the gallery.

No buttons or obvious political slogans on clothing.

No sunglasses.

No talking. No booing or cheering. No applause.  If you create a disturbance, you will be removed.

A.  Queen's Park Rally:

The second reading of Bill 16 will take place on Feb. 23 at Queen's Park.  It is vitally important that we have at least 500 people at the rally on that day.  The rally will take place at 11:30 a.m. (exact location at Queen's Park will be announced when permit is received). http://www.ontla.on.ca/web/go2.jsp?Page=/visitor-resources/location_parking&menuItem=visitor_information_parking&locale=en

It is also important that we fill the Legislature with supporters of this bill on Feb. 23.

Please make every effort to attend and to bring friends with you!    This is our one best chance of restoring our freedoms in Ontario.

B. MPP Randy Hillier's Petition

Please print off at least one copy of the petition and gather signatures in support of Bill 16.  Send this directly to Hillier's office.  Do this as soon as possible - they are needed before Feb. 23.

"President's Message RE: Bill 16"

Bill 16, Public Safety Related to Dogs Statute Law Amendment Act, 2011

Current Status: First Reading Carried

Dear Members, especially those in Ontario:

The first step has been made to repeal the Breed Specific sections of DOLA and ARA with the introduction of Bill 16 in the Ontario Legislature on Nov.30.  The Bill was introduced by PC Randy Hillier, NDP Cheri DiNovo and Liberal Kim Craitor!  Three party support!

This is an eagerly awaited step by owners of the thousands of bull and terrier type dogs who are under threat from this sickening legislation enacted by the provincial Liberals.

There are further steps to go. We believe now that Second Reading will take place on February 23, 2012.  After this, there may be committee hearings, hopefully open and transparent, so unlike those of 2005.  This would be followed by Third Reading and a vote.

We have action to take!  You MUST contact your provincial representative and urge them to support the repeal of BSL.  It does not matter what party your representative belongs to, your member has to listen more closely.  Remember, this is a minority government! The Liberals no longer hold complete sway within Queen's Park.

Your Staffie would give its all for you.  Now is the time to give your all for your dog.

Pat your dogs for me.

Clive

"Membership Renewal Time"

Once again it’s time for the renewal of your Club Membership.

Renewal applications can be found here in PDF and Word formats for download.  As you know, Club memberships run for the calendar year, so the fees for 2012 are due and payable on or before January 1, 2012.

Here’s some exciting news for this year!  If you pay your annual membership by October 1st, 2011, you will be given a $10.00 DISCOUNT – so only $40.00 for the year.  ALSO – we are starting something entirely new…..  For every new member you ‘sponsor’ (so you sign off on the membership application), once the member has paid his/her fees, you will receive $5.00 in STAFFIE DOLLARS  (see sample) that can be used toward your new renewal membership for 2013 or at the STAFFORD STORE.

Membership can be paid either by cheque (payable to SBTCC), Money Order or via Internet Banking.  If paying via Internet banking a hard copy of the renewal application is still required for files.  Once signed it can be scanned, faxed, or snail mailed.

If you have any questions regarding any of the above, please contact me.

"2011 Claresholm Staffie Walk"

The Staffie Walk this year will be on August 13, 20011.

Last years walk was a huge success. We once again achieved our goal, with over 50 people and 31 dogs. Each year I hope we can get more people and more dogs than the year before to come out and join in the walk. This year I am hoping to have over 60 people and maybe even 40 dogs. I have had many new people contacting me already this year asking how they can join us in August. I am hoping everyone that joined last year can make it this year also. So put it on your calendar.

The walk this year will be held on August 13, 2011. I would like everyone to meet at my home (313 52 Ave. East Claresholm AB.) by 10:30am. We will all head out to the first point together. The parade will start at 11am.

If everyone can bring a few bags of wrapped candy so we can toss it to the kids standing on the side lines that would be great. We never seem to have enough candy.

After the parade we will have a BBQ at my house. I ask that everyone bring a salad, veggie tray whatever they like to contribute to the feast. Hamburgers and hotdogs are covered.

I host this walk to show the world that Staffies are not a threat to society. BSL is not the way to go.

I want to thank everyone who take time out of their busy lives to come to my small town and join us in the walk. It is the Staffies and their owners that are truly amazing. Our dogs are always showing they are great ambassadors for bully breeds.

It does not matter what breeder you got your dog from, everyone is invited. I have been asked if this matters and it does not. I welcome all Staffordshire Bull Terrier owners and their dogs.

Let's make this 2011 Staffie Walk bigger and better than last year. If you are interested in a Staffie t-shirt let me know.

Anyone interested in joining us in 2011 please contact me, Jackie Liversuch at 403 625 5565.
